Awards
Awards are given for service that is “above and beyond the call of duty.” The awarding criteria has been created by seasoned first responders. The highest awards are given for heroism. They include the Medal of Valor, Service Crosses, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Franklin Medal (equivalent to the Purple Heart). These awards plus other medals for service performed during Presidentially Declared Disasters are called Operational Awards. The other awards are for exceptional service in support of the first responders’ mission to save lives and protect property.
